Our best measurement in the front yard was 27 inches.

*boggles*

I have a hard time even imagining that much snow. Around here, we get all excited when there are a few flakes floating around, and we had a record December in 2009 because it snowed twice, but it was nowhere near 27 inches (it wasn't even enough to stick).

I know it snowed when we lived in the DC area (Dad was stationed at the Pentagon and we lived in Springfield VA from '74-76), but I don't remember it ever snowing as much as it has for y'all this year (then again, I was only 8 when we moved to Texas from Virginia, so who knows what I really remember).

This is the most snow I've ever seen. Actually it has to be since the only heavier snowfall was in 1922. I haven't heard the official measurement yet, though.

The snow was so high and heavy that the pickup truck plowing our street got stuck. TWICE!

Goodness, 27 inches is a lot even here in New England, and there... Well, I'm sorry you've had to deal with it, but glad you're getting through okay. Especially glad you've got your power restored.

I'd never thought of a satellite dish getting buried before, although I suppose this is mostly because when I've never had a satellite dish. Can't blame you for getting irritated.

Hope things are going well for both your daughters. Couple of friends of mine have taught in Japan--they've all seemed to enjoy it.

Even though the 'official' measurement at DC National airport was 'only' 18 inches, most localities around DC got a lot more.

I'll let my daughter in Japan know that. She's very excited and having studied in Japan during her junior year in college, she was just thrilled when her old advisor from school put her in touch with this program.
