Literally very annoying

The mis-use of the word "literally" is very annoying (it annoys me almost as much as the mis-use of "decimated"). Literally now seems to mean "like/can be compared to." But that isn't really what it means ( Read more... )

lol! This also reminds me of a passage from Yes Man by Danny Wallace:

Katherine is also someone who says "quite literally" a lot.

"It quite literally gets up my nose that people just walk around, when they could be making a difference."

If they were quite literally getting up her nose when they were walking around, then I would suggest she's probably standing a little too close to them.

Oh god yes, it's like random has replaced mad! "LOL, you're really mad, you are" has become "You're totally random!"

I would also question the use of "totally". It might be more correct to say "mainly." ;D

I mentioned this on the Ministry of Burlesque forum but they were all horrified that I was dissing Immodesty. They're also a bunch of racists, so what did I expect?
