I don't tweet and seldom check tweets that aren't imported to LJ. Most of my LJ posts are "friends only". I read only two blogs that aren't in my LJ friends list. I'm not on Facebook. TokKOM feels quite dead nowadays

Two days ago, I was on a PhD celebration dinner for a friend who I haven't met for about ten years, and whom I wouldn't have had any contact with if it weren't for Facebook. I have another friend (or acquaintance) who moved away to another part of the country, and whose house renovation I can follow daily - I know more about her now than I did when she lived nearby.
Then again, Facebook is full of lots of uninteresting things too, but I apply some mechanical and some mental filters and it works well for me.
(Then again, I'm the kind of person who's fairly content with keeping track of what people do from a distance. Meeting people is good too, but it takes energy - I meet people at work and at the stable, and that plus the occasional dinner or get-together now and then is as much as I need.)
