Title: Once Upon A Time...(1/2 or 3)
Pairing: Edmund/Peter
Comments: A week back from Narnia, feelings die hard
They had been back in their world for a week and the urges were back.
Edmund would wake up, and creep down the stairs into Pete’s bedroom and watch him sleep. Pretending to be there next to him. Like they had been back in Narnia, but they both knew that in that world it was okay…here it was an abomination. So he sat and stared, and when the day broke, he returned to being a good brother, and acting as a good brother should.
Peter in his own love of Edmund, had for a day tried to distance himself, hoping that he would return to thinking of Ed as his brother, it didn’t work. So he went back to his familiar role of his lover, only with out any overtly physical gestures. He knew Ed came at night to watch him sleep, he was always awoken by the creaking floorboard outside his door, and he was hoping that one night, he would be able to find the courage to ask him if he wanted to hop in bed with him.
Susan and Lucy knew what was going on. How could they not, they had supported their brothers in Narnia and they would support their brothers here in England. It made no difference to them if the world would despise their brother’s love, all that mattered to them was that they were happy. They just hoped that either Ed or Peter would find the courage to confess their still active feelings for the other, as they were getting sick of being woken up in the middle of the night by creaking floorboards.
Mrs. Pevensie was worried about her boys. They seemed so tired since they had gotten home. She hoped that they were not getting sick. It was hard enough trying to get them to do their chores and such as it was, but with them sick, who would clean the kitchen? Who would sweep the floor? And for that matter who would repair that damn creaky floorboard that for no reason, would creak in the middle of the night!
Monday.
Ed got up for another day of walking around the streets of London. All of the children’s school had been candled due to the bombing raids, and why would he stay in the house all day? Especially since his mother had taken to giving him chores. Peter. However, felt obligated to help their mother so he took up Ed’s chores as his own and let the younger brother have the day off.
It was 4pm and Ed was tired, so he wandered home. As he walked past Peter’s room he noticed (and was privately grateful for) the floorboard no longer creaked when he stepped on it. He went up to the bathroom the family shared and had a quick shower. He got out and wrapped a threadbare towel around himself before opening the door and walking into his room. He found his room tidied so he assumed Pete had been playing maid again. He grabbed some of his clothes and went own to the kitchen, as he smelled dinner being prepared.
Peter had been working all day; he had repaired the floorboard, cleaned both his and Ed’s rooms, as well as the family room, dining room, and kitchen. He was now almost done with dinner and was beginning to wonder where ED was…he hadn’t seen him since he ran out the front door this morning with a hurried goodbye. Just as he completed his thought, Ed walked in and plopped himself down in one the aging kitchen chairs.
“Hey Ed. How was your day?’ Peter asked
“Good, you know, just wandered around and made new friends.” Ed replied
“Well that’s good, Mum is over at Miss Angie’s house for dinner, Susan and Lucy went with her, so I made you your favorite! Roast Beef with steamed veggies!’ Peter said pleased that he had put so much into it for his Ed.
Ed smiled and went up to Peter and hugged him. “Thank you.”
Peter returned his hug, then turned from him and grabbed the platter of meat and veggies, he set it on the already set table and sat down. They had a most enjoyable dinner and when they were done, Peter cleaned up the dishes. They went into the family room to listen to the radio just as Mum and the girls got home. They stayed up for a while listening to the latest war reports and other such news before one by one drifting off to bed. Ed was the last to go at roughly 12am, flicking off the radio as he made his way to his room. He lay in his bed, telling himself that tonight was the last time ever he would go watch Peter sleep, he made this resolution to himself. He got up and crept downstairs to Peter’s open doorway. He watched Peter sleep, the moonlight giving his body a soft pale glow. He crept right up to the side of the bed and stood watching him for the last time. He was just about to place a soft hand lightly on Peter’s head when Peter sat up in bed. Ed stepped back and stood stock still, whishing that his brother hadn’t seen him. No such luck.
“Ed, are you okay?’
‘Yeah.’
‘Do you want to sleep with me tonight?’
‘What will mom say?’
‘I don’t care Ed. I just need to lay beside you again.’
‘Okay Pete.’
Peter scooted over to make room for the younger boy as ED climbed under the covers…
