I was listening to NPR on the way home, and they played a clip from a previous interview with Bhutto, in which she said, and I paraphrase, 'Of course I know how dangerous it is. My father was hanged, and it was one of the worst times in my life. But the only way that anything will change and that democracy will have a chance and the poor and displaced in Pakistan will have a voice is if someone takes that chance.'
I felt like someone had dumped cold water down my back when I read CNN this morning. I was oddly comforted - very oddly - to hear that quote this afernoon. And sadly, I have more respect for her now than I did before (which is pretty impressive).
