Victorians: Coal alert!

Nov 16, 2009 16:07

The Victorian government is thinking of allocating further brown coal reserves - i.e. letting companies dig them up and release the carbon they contain (not to mention all the other pollutants in brown coal). In short, this sucks. Learn more, and write a letter to the state cabinet here.

Well, this climate change denier says.....

Oh for Pete's sake what's wrong with solar energy, dude???? It might be more expensive now but once the Theory of Marginal Utility kicks in it will cost sod-all really. Plus we get to tell the tinpot tyrants to go get a life cos we don't need your oil any more, and brutal and repressive regimes will undergo velvet revolutions and... do I need to go on???

As you can imagine I am a bit frustrated with My Team (TM) right now......

Aren't we all frustrated? :) Tell them how you feel! Otherwise they will think you want another coal plant!

Geothermal is reliable and readily available for base-load. The tired old line about the sun not shining at night doesn't apply either now the Spanish hot oil/salt things are up and running.

The main problem is that most policy-makers at state and federal level (except for Penny W's dept and the DPMC) don't actually believe in man-made global warming. Neither do I; but I really don't think that's the point any more. A sensible risk-management policy would put some eggs in that basket anyway. I'm only 98% sure I'm right, so how's about some funding for solar/geothermal/whatever? I would like to ask these guys are you really 100% you're right?????
