Men's Business Fashion Advice

I'm fucking tired of ties.  I hate how they feel and having something wrapped around my neck makes me panicky.

So over the next few cycles, I'm going to try to transition my wardrobe away from tradition white-collar business attire to items that are still incredibly formal & business-appropriate, but without the necessity of choking myself.

Wearing a vest or jacket can usually let you get away with not wearing a tie as long as you're wearing a nice shirt. As long as you're not just wearing a shirt, it's a step above business casual.

I believe the clip-on version of the bow tie is far less easy to detect than its full tie counterpart (at least for well-made versions thereof), and has a sort of old-fashioned charm that's hard to beat :). It is also possible that a full bow tie would not feel as oppressive around your neck, but I don't know how likely that is.

If you're still willing to go closed-collar, button covers are rather classier than clip-ons, but the shirt needs to support it.

mmm I love ties... I'll take your ties :-D

You can fully get away without wearing a tie for certain occassions.

I vote for the bow tie as well!

Sweater vests over dress shirts also can look casually dressy without needing a tie.

I second "button covers", also called "enhancers". They go especially well with band collar shirts.
