Eleven Athenas, a crowded field! And I didn't even start with half of them. Because I'd entered the series and had a "top 5" position, I got to race in a special "Championship wave" that was the first one after the elites. This was both good and bad. It was quite fun to get a priority start, and the first lap on the bike was blissfully quiet! Finishing earlier in the day is also very nice, time to cheer for others. But it meant the swim was quite a whirlpool and there was more chance of later waves swimming over me. But my solution to that is to swim off course, no one swims over you then. ;)

I also did this race last year and compared to then I was only 32 seconds faster! Seems like my transitions got slower, and my swim/bike/run all got a tiny bit faster. I think this is my best time for 20km bike (by a handful of seconds) but even so, I am a bit disappointed my run time wasn't under 30:00. That just shows how little running I have done over this summer.

Supersprint has a scheme where you get points for each top 10 finish (per category). As I entered the series, my points ended up placing me 3rd overall for the series, which scored me a small perspex ornament and a $100 Active Feet voucher. Woot!

My club - (I'm on the far right, just snuck in)

I think it is unlikely I will enter the whole series again. Next year I will probably just enter a couple of races as suits. I am definitely keen to do Portarlington again but everything else will just depend on what else is on.

BRING ON WINTER TRAINING. I'm pretty over the summer season, looking forward to running in the evenings again and preparing for my first half-marathon. :D
