It seems like you're sacrificing a lot of expression, especially in the eyes. The visual expressiveness in your characters, along with the stories, is one of the things I really like in your comics. Your strip, but for my two cents' worth: from what tiny bit you've shown so far I think the old style worked better.

The new style does look very 'Zim', but that's not a bad thing. I like both styles, and if you prefer it this way and enjoy drawing it more, that's even better.
I have a friend who's going to do his own comic in differing styles depending on what he wants to portray at the time. Most of the comics are just inked, and usually lighthearted... the action scenes are going to be pencil sketched and shaded. (And GOD, he does a fantastic job of that...)

Their face expressions are harder to read this way.
