This morning Grandma took me to Golden Gate Park to the Academy of Sciences and the Aquarium. I certainly saw a lot in the aquarium. All varieties of goldfish bass perch salmon trout and pike. I also saw sole mackerel halibut sharks and all sorts of fish catfish and bullheads were there too. Then we went into the Academy of Natural Sciences. There ( Read more... )

Your dad would have been pleased to know that all those fishes are right now being put into their new tanks (some of them huge) in the Academy's new facility. The African Hall that he saw has been rebuilt with all of the same details, and with both the old and some different taxidermified critters.

The marvelous relief map in the ferry building, sadly, is long gone. It is reported to have been sold for $1.00 in 1962 and its current whereabouts unknown.
