One of the bigger things that made people wake up and notice that Pete Wentz was a big 'mo was the 2005 Warped Tour or, as some call it, The Summer of Like. My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy were both on this tour and somewhere during that, Pete Wentz and Mikey Way (MCR bassist) started getting cozy. From an (unfortunately f-locked) awesome primer on those two: It was at a show in Orlando, Florida at the House of Blues for a Fueled By Ramen show that Mikey was first spotted watching out for Fall Out Boy. This was April 16th of 2005 and the biggest thing about it was that Mikey was wearing Pete's white denim jacket.

Questions about his friendship with Mikey started coming up on the FOB site Q&As, they hung out all the time but didn't like to be photographed together, and they formed a "gang" of two called Sweet Little Dudes. Also from the primer:

Oh man. So at first I was like, it's almost not as fun if they're actually gay. I mean, writing about Lance isn't nearly as fun now, because there's no conjecture. But since I'm pretty sure Mikey Way is the guy from MCR that I think is super hot (I love MCR, by the way, even if I don't show it) that's just like. Yes. Awesome. Tell me there's fic. There HAS to be fic.

*whoa, butting in* By far my favourite Pete/Mikey fic is ' Summer Into Dust'. It takes the canon (watching the sun set, waterpark, sharing clothes) and twists it into something gloriously angsty and sweet. (Everything Emily wrote is gold, btw. If you're looking for good MCR fic, check her writing journal.)

Hell, I'm not above self-pimping. I've written three or four Pete/Mikey-ish fics.

Just for the record, those last two pics were from the Fall Out Boy secret show at the Knitting Factory in NYC in like Marchish 05, where they performed as Saved Latin. Mikey came out to play for Pete so he could stagedive like a loon.

The fans dropped him.

(the coat was stolen from ultragrrrl, an exgirlfriend from way back - my understanding is she and Mikey met while he was interning at Eyeball - and former MCR manager. she blogged about it at one point. it's possible I remember too much about this)
