I'd swear you two share the same eyes.
This place reminds me of Doomsday, a villain in superman who was bound and buried miles underground. His shackles and the material that was draped over him made it so that even with a strength to match superman's he couldn't move more then an inch at a time. It was never said how long it took him but he basically wiggled back and forth shifting the dirt and rocks until he reached the surface.
I also liked the mantra very much.
