We'll see how that goes but I can't see myself getting any time off at that time of year sadly. I'd love to see you though. Let me know when/if you're coming out east at any other time.
The way I look at it is this... you were good enogh to get into this program, at one of the best schools in Canada I might add, so I believe that you are good enogh to do well. Being vigilant and not caring TOO much about what everyone thinks of you will probably be best things for you. Debating is good, but if you get so bent out of shape by people not agreeing with you then you have to fix that, in my opinion. Especially in something like music. Not everyone will agree with you, or see your views as clearly as you do. But that's ok, that's just how it is. It's just like interpreting a song. Everyone has a different view on what it means, because it's what it means to them. I guess I'm trying to give you a confidence boost here. Jut do your thing, carve your own mark into the world because only you can.

Thanks Jay! It's always good to get a sober perspective. I think I'm developing some tougher skin but that'll come more with experience and seniority. It's challenging too because I don't have an ordinary topic - metal isn't the most traditional research area. But that, of course, makes me way more motivated because I care about the subject and because I'm doing something totally original.
Perfectionism and organizational skills are dragons that I'm going to have to dual with my entire life. I'm getting better at them though; progress is enough to make me satisfied with myself for now.
