One of those rare arguments where I agree with the conclusion (Sarah Palin's campaign is predicated on feelings of humiliation and promising a return to lost greatness) and am completely baffled at the premise.

Yeah. Palin isn't in Hitler's league, although if she ever did get into the White House, the US would be pretty solidly fucked.

But she's definitely playing from the same playbook. Bigoted scapegoating (the "otherness" of Obama vs. the "otherness" of the Jews), promising a return to glory (with the added tinge of evangelical dominionism), and "the big lie" (e.g. an interview on her tour bus this week where she claimed Obama has increased the federal debt more than all the previous presidents put together, which is complete and utter bullshit).

What does it say about this country that anyone takes this cow seriously?

This is one of the idiots who was quick to blame Palin after Giffords' shooting, and was deathly silent after the shooter's true associations were revealed.
