The signifiers for race are very different outside the USA. And the issue the police have got is that this is a major flashpoint, with the potential to generate lynch-mob-like behaviour among extreme right-wing types (BNP, EDL) trying to use this case as a wedge issue.

What I want to know is why the 59 y.o. can't be named.
Also, in a country where prostitution is legal (last I heard), in what way is it abusing people to pay them for sex. But I suppose the depressing truth is that it was hardly an open-market transaction.

Probably because it would identify one of the victims, or one of the perps who is under 18.

Age of consent -- the girls in question were under 16 at the time, so it's child sex abuse. Plus rape on top (as in: forced penetration, not just statutory rape.)
