CHARACTER
Name: Ildon
Series: Saga Frontier
Canon: OU
Age: A few hundred years old (Never explicitly stated)
Timeline: Post-game (Asellus's half-mystic ending with Rastaban defeated. Pre-epilogue)

History:
The world of Saga Frontier is a very strange (and sometimes silly) place. The world itself is divided into various regions accessible through airships that travel the world. For the most part, the regions have almost nothing in common. Manhattan is a vast bustling modern metropolis, Kyo is a garden city set is medieval Japan, Shrike is the spitting image of suburbia today, and so on and so forth. So all in all, a very diverse culture of people and customs live in Saga Frontier land.

Also in the world of Saga Frontier, there are four major races: humans, monsters, robots, and Mystics. Mystics are the elves/vampires/magical-creatures/demons of Saga Frontier. One of their major "cities" is the giant castle Chateau Aiguille located in the region Facinaturu. The ruler of this city was Charm Lord Orlogue. Ildon served under his as one of his Three Knights. His full title is Ildon, Black Wing, Prince of Darkness.

Now, in order to describe Ildon's history, the culture and customs of Facinaturu need to be discussed. Mystics are born much in the way that vampires are created. A Mystic finds a human, takes them home, drains them of all their blood and replaces it with their own. Then the human wakes up a few decades/centuries later as a Mystic. The Charm Lord himself has created dozens of Mystics, mostly Princesses who he keeps at the castle for his entertainment. Probably why they call him the Charm Lord. Mystic society is also very caste based. Higher ranking Mystics live in the castle while the lower mystics and the human servants live at the base of the castle known aptly as Rootville. Nothing is mentioned about Ildon's life as a human, but he knows much about the various princesses of the castle before they were turned. This indicates that he has been twiddling his thumbs in that castle for a very very long time.

Our story began on a cold and stormy night, when one poor human girl was hit by a carriage while the Charm Lord was searching for his escaped princess. Bit of bad luck on his part when all he returned home with is a half dead girl in the backseat. Instead of turning her into a Mystic, however, the Charm Lord decided to mix his blood with hers, making her the first and only half Mystic ever created. And thus, Asellus the Half-Mystic Charm Prince was born.

Ten years later, Asellus finally woke up from her blood-infusion induced slumber to be greeted by one slightly grumpy Mystic Knight. This is where Ildon came to play. Yes, his appearances generally revolve around him being a babysitter to the protagonist of Asellus's story arc. Ildon was put in charge of teaching her the ways of the secret Mystics arts. He did this in the usual way - summoning random monsters to kill her until she achieved the appropriate level. His mentor duties were assisted by Princess White Rose, who taught Asellus how to be prim and proper and all that. Asellus didn't learn much from those lessons. Of course, the constant stream of unending monsters would get on anyone's nerves. So at the first opportunity, Asellus bribed a pilot to take her and Princess White Rose out of that hell hole. Ildon was none to pleased, but the task to find Asellus was left to another one of the Three Knights, Ciato. So he just sat back and watched the show.

But the popcorning was not meant to last. Ciato had the nerve to try to attack Ildon's lover, Rastaban (the third and final of the Three Knights). Severely weakened, Rastaban asked Ildon to go defend Asellus. And being the yes man that he is (see the Personality section), that is what he did. Ildon helped her defeat numerous henchmen of the Charm Lord until the Charm Lord was pissed enough to go after them himself. And by go after, I mean he stuck the whole party in a labyrinth until Princess White Rose chose to stay in the labyrinth in order to free the rest of the party.

Asellus, upon realizing that she was in love with Princess White Rose, emoed over this for a while. But with some cheering up from the other more charismatic party members, the team was ready to bring the fight back to Facinaturu and to the Charm Lord's front door. On their way up the castle (and after several boss fights), they run into Rastaban. Dear old loverboy had been a very bad boy, it seemed, and was pulling strings all along to get Asellus to overthrow the Charm Lord. And thus, he too was smited. With Rastaban dead, Ildon handed over his loyalty to Asellus, commenting that he "was going to see this through to the end." And so, the party storms through the rest of the boss fights including the Charm Lord himself.

With the battle ended and the Charm Lord dead, only one problem remained. Princess White Rose was still stuck in that damn labyrinth. So Asellus left on a journey across the regions to find a way to save her. This is where the game ends, though it is hinted in the epilogue that Ildon went and met with her a few times after that. Ildon is being taken from this point in canon, post game and pre-epilogue, where he is searching for Asellus.

Note: The game has two alternate endings, but this is the one that I choose to take Ildon from.

Personality:
Ildon is first and foremost a yes man to whoever has earned his loyalty, and for the most part, that loyalty went to the Charm Lord. Why else would he babysit a sleeping half-Mystic for 10 years just to see if she woke up? Seems a bit of a dull task for one of his three highest ranking knights to do. But Ildon did it faithfully without complaint. He also stopped by the tailors and gave the guided tour to the newbie. Train the new Mystic in the Mystic Arts? Yeah, he did that, too. Oh yes, a yes man he is.

However, Ildon does not put duty above all things. When the going got rough, his prerogative was to be a yes man to his lover Rastaban and not the Charm Lord. He also did seem to want something better for his homeland. He was willing to help Asellus defeat Rastaban after his true colors were brought to light. That shows that he was looking for a change for the better for his stagnant. princess-hoarding kingdom. Overall, all three endings show him as a much happier individual once the Charm Lord has been overthrown and a very bitter man if Asellus continues to rule in his tyrant footsteps.

As for general personality type, Ildon is the collected swordsman. He's calm in most situations, if just a bit on the mocking, holier-than-thou side. The only time he really loses his temper is when machinery is brought into close proximity of his being, but that is true for the majority of most Mystics. Ildon also thinks highly of those who take pride in their swordsmanship. Of all the Princesses, the one he spoke most fondly of was the Lion Princess, the best swordswoman in Facinaturu.

Ildon has a softer side as well buried deep down under all that armor. Cliche as it sounds, he did turn on the Charm Lord for love. If Rastaban, his lover, had not asked him to join Asellus after being attacked, Ildon would probably have served the Charm Lord to the very bitter end. There are also hints of kindness and respect when he talks of some of the other princesses. And to some degree, he is a bit overprotective of Asellus. When she falls down the emo well, while he is not there to pull her out of it, he is waiting at the top for her when she manages to pull herself together.

Abilities/Additional Notes: As mentioned above, Ildon is a high class mystic and one of the Three Knights in the service of the Charm Lord. This gives him the following abilities:
  • Traits of the Mystic Race:
    • Long lifespan: Upward bound of several hundred to several thousand years
    • Blue blood
    • Charm aura: Humans often told tales of the Mystics using their charm to lure people away. And the stronger the mystic, the stronger the charm with the Charm Lord (obviously) sitting on top of that hierarchy. Compared to the other two knights, Ildon's charm is relatively weak, which is probably due to his "sunny" personality.
    • Advanced healing: Able to withstand blows that would kill a human and heal from them quickly. Asellus, a half-Mystic, recovers from a sword to the back within a few minutes.
  • Vampirism Mysticism: Mystics gain more power and abilities as well as accelerate their healing by drinking the blood/life essence/what-have-you of defeated monsters and other Mystics. It does not work on humans. They can also store up to three abilities from these monsters in their Mystic Weapons (which in gameplay were the Mystic Sword, Mystic Gloves, and Mystic Boots). For this game, I would like to bring Ildon with no stored abilities.
  • Mystic Magic: A mixture of charm and illusion spells
    • Fascination: Strong charm spell
    • Phantasm Shot: Illusion spell to conjure forth a black cat, jackal, nightmare, cockatrice, or reaper
    • Glass Shield: Protective spell that makes the attacker hit a wall of glass instead of the Mystic
    • Mirror Image: Conjures up to four illusions of the caster
  • Teleportation: Which is kind of a godmodding ability, but somewhat vital to how he goes about his day to day activities as well as his fighting style (read: his get the hell outta town button). So I was wondering if it would be acceptable for him to teleport around home freely (the city of Nesreca) but not anywhere outside of the city or within Credinta.

Third-Person Sample:
Ildon wiped the blood from his mouth, smearing a line of blue across his cheek. Wretched creature. How dare it approach so close to the castle. It would pay for its insolence. No filthy monster had ever stepped foot upon the halls of Chateau Aiguille, and Ildon wasn't about to let this wayward phoenix be the first.

Brandishing his sword, he stabbed at out the beast straight at its heart. It howled and shrieked, fiery wings singeing his hair and skin and armor alike. So. damn. annoying. Ildon gritted his teeth and planted his boots firmly against the ground, driving the blade in more. Just a bit more. A soft glow encompassed his weapon, all dancing red and purple. It spread out towards the beast, engulfing it, claiming it. The shrieks grew louder, hitting an impossibly high crescendo.

And then nothing was left of the great bird by a giant husk of dried corpse. Brittle. Fragile. Already beginning to crumble as the winds began to pick up.

With a smug smile tugging his lips, Ildon pulled his blade from the beast. The soft light surrounding the sword flared brightly once more before dying down, revealing steel as sharp and clean as the day it was forged.

"Now let's see what the oversized pheasant had to offer."

A quick snap of his fingers brought a small ball of golden-red flame into the palm of his hand. The same hue, intensity, and from the creature that Ildon had just stolen it from. And much better than that useless shadow spell he had taken from that denizens that crept in the darkest regions of Koroong's backstreets. Much better. Closing his fist to quench the flame, he sheathed his sword back into its scabbard, kicking the phoenix carcass harsh enough to send the ash scattering across the cold earth.

"This will do."

First-Person Sample Journal Post:
[With great reluctance, the device is turned to audio. Best to not frighten all the humans with letting them know a Mystic is wandering in their mist]

Is this really the only means of communication in this- this... [Revolting eyesore that made the Robot junkyard look like a five star hotel]

I require directions to the nearest portal out of this city. The sooner I leave, the happier we'll all be.
