Personality:
Yukari is described as being a "very youkai-like youkai", but in basic terms this pretty much means she's as whimsical as they come whose intentions are always unknown. It's difficult to say just what side she's on since her motives always change depending on the situation; it seems for the most part she's concerned for the sake of Gensokyo, but isn't above fooling everyone-- including her own shikigami-- into thinking she's about to start a second Lunar War. She's definitely good when it comes to scheming and teasing, and truth be told you can't always believe everything she says. Messing around is simply what Yukari does, much to the irritation of others, but if she can get that frustrated response that's good enough for her. For the most part Yukari is simply a very laid back, relaxed being who likes to tease, but seeing as she's a thousands year old being with near god-like abilities, it's hard to say she could be anything but.
So relaxed, it's fairly notable that Yukari loves her sleep; a simple 'nap' can go months at a time and will even forgo important obligations in favor of it. She weakened the border to the Netherworld knowing a plan underway would never succeed, and even failed to fix it back because she was just too busy sleeping. It's safe to say that Yukari has pretty skewed priorities, then, if she wouldn't even warn a close friend about their plan before returning to her slumber. That isn't to say she'll ignore everything; she's done her fair share of 'saving the day', although in some cases her way of going about it were fairly... odd. When she goes about these excursions with those like Reimu, though, she seems to keep Yukari in check. Mostly-- she still manages to be, well, herself, but they deed gets done with little trouble. When she isn't out and about, she's actually a bit of a recluse, so much that no one even knows where her home is. Despite this, she's also somehow managed to get around a lot; a good portion of youkai know who she is, and she's managed to befriend some of the more powerful beings as well (such as Yuyuko the ghost, Suika the oni, and arguably Reimu the shrine maiden of the Hakurei Border).
It's easy to describe her as fickle, an instigator, and lazy and call it a day, but behind all of that she truly is an enigma. Perhaps after living for so long, she no longer lives by what's "right" or "wrong", but rather by what would bring the best possible outcome for her own sake. It's a little selfish, maybe, that Yukari runs with her own entertainment in mind, but deep down inside it isn't as though she has any sort of apathy or dislike toward people. As someone who helped create the eastern wonderland that is Gensokyo, she has a fondness for this mystical microcosm and will certainly jump in for its sake, even if it usually takes drastic measures. Incidents aside, simply put, Yukari really has no other reason to not live day after day in whatever matter feels the most fun to her-- even if the definition of the word highly clashes with others she's often around.
Specialties/Abilities:
Yukari is the youkai of boundaries, meaning she can manipulate exactly that-- boundaries. Whether they be literal or metaphysical, any and all boundaries can be twisted to her whims. To go a little more in-depth with this, when it comes to literal and physical boundaries, Yukari has what are normally called "gaps" in which she simply "portals" through from one places to another. She can go through walls with these gaps, or even dissippear into the air and appear elsewhere entirely. As for the 'metaphysical' bit, the best way to describe this is to use a canon example: in order to instigate the first Lunar War, Yukari had to bring an army of youkai to the moon. To do this, she manipulated the reflection of the moon upon a lake in order to create a path there, rather than take the normal route (which would be going into space and the like). It's never mentioned that Yukari could change the appearance of anything due to manipulating borders (which, personally, I don't think she can), but needless to say this ability of hers is what makes her one of, if not the most, powerful youkai in existence.
Danmaku is another ability, although this is something anyone can use. It works upon the Spellcard System, which is a nonlethal (although still capable of hurting) method of battling one another. Basically this means one can create some crazy and potentially seizure causing patterns composed of lasers and "bullets" to attack an opponent; everyone has their own, specialized set of Spellcards, which means every pattern is different. This, more than likely, won't be cropping up in Somarium.
With the two more notable things out of the way, Yukari being inhuman has some of the more obvious youkai traits; an incredibly long lifespan and a good amount of strength behind her. That and she can fly. Yukari doesn't seem to be capable of anything in the magical sense, but she more than likely doesn't need it when she's already got one hell of an ability at hand.
