I absolutely understand that, and I wasn't judging you or anything. And I know that you're one of the better-informed people when it comes to international news, but it just bothers me when people make comments like that without understanding the situation or the cultural groups involved. I think that no matter who is involved, we have an obligation to at least understand who they are and why they acted before we judge them.

And again, I'm glad to hear that your family's fine. I know I'd be very upset/scared if something like that was to happen anywhere near my family.
