So who went to see Phantom 25? I thought overall it was pretty good, but I have some gripes ( Read more... )

I just got back. I could nitpick about a couple things (stationary chandelier, wasn't a huge fan of the screens) but the rest of the production was so enjoyable, I quickly forgot about anything I didn't like. Overall I loved it, and I left fully satisfied. It was great being able to see everyone's facial expressions and gestures up close. It really added to the experience, considering how whenever I've seen it in the theater, I've been in the nosebleed section ( ... )

Oh yeah. Ramin's acting was fantastic. I've seen some Phantoms phone it in but he didn't. That finale scene was heart wrenching.

I saw it. If anyone cares, fuller review in my LJ, isabel79.

I was expecting nothing more than like Les Mis, people standing in full costume in front of microphones. So any "scenery" they had was good to me. I thought it was really well done. I liked it.

If anything I had issue with camera angles and focus on things when I wanted to see others. Yeah, Michael not singing was weird. And for some reason, seeing Colm surprised me.

Not sure if I'll see it in the theater again, but I'm gonna play the shite load out of that DVD!

I agree with you about some of the camera angles. There were times when the camera was up close on someone and then suddenly, bam, someone else is on stage and we never saw them enter.

In all I enjoyed it and as some one who has been seeing it when I can for that past 21 years(I was 9 the first time, I will be 30 in a month), I can say, this was as a whole WONDERFUL! And since I have seen it like 29 times, I can draw from experience! LOL ( ... )

Now there were moments I was like.. Uh.. there are people over there singing or.. Oh look Sierra has fillings!

HAHAHA!!! I was thinking the same thing! Plus the back flap of Ramin's wig prosthesis was annoying me...

Can anyone tell me why Ramin had 2 mics? One on his jaw and it looked like another under the wig.

Oh, Davis Gaines. I am so jealous. He's my favorite phantom I've never seen. The first time I heard him sing (which was "Ol' Man River" not even anything from PotO), I wept clear through the last third of the song. I get gooseflesh just listening to boots. I can't even imagine hearing him live!

I'm adding another comment, since I've seen this discussed elsewhere online and wanted to mention it here. It seems like some people didn't like how torn up Christine was over leaving at the end, and thought it came across like she wanted to stay and Raoul just coaxed her into going. I didn't see it that way. The Phantom was an important figure to her and although she isn't in love with him and doesn't want to be his bride, they did have an intense relationship and she cares about him in some form. I read it not as if she was truly unsure about leaving, but more like, "I'm leaving but I feel horrible for you and I wish things could have been different."

Oh man, I can't stop thinking about that final scene. I loved it so much. The acting was so good. I think it may have been changed a bit as a setup for Love Never Dies, but I don't care. It was amazing. When I've seen the show before it's been hard to understand what Christine's thinking at that moment, and in the movie she was kind of conniving at that moment (she whispered "I love you" to Raoul just before, that bitch), but in this you could tell she was really torn, as I'd always hoped she was at that moment.

I am a firm believe that she is in love with each of them in very different ways, and the love she feels for Erik scares her. She understands she shouldn't love him in the way she does. She should love Raoul who is handsome and young and strong. Erik is the much, much older man who is that father figure she so desperately wanted. And he prays on that. She is also the embodiment of a lot of things to him.

I love LOVE Susan Kay's "Phantom", she does such a good job filling out their love story. She looks exactly like the dead mother that scorned him and hated him and abused him so badly. He is the father figure to a girl who is afraid of her shadow. He is madly and wildly in love with her voice and what he can do with it, She is in love with the mystery and illusion of the mask. You learn so much in their Counterpoints.

I am of the idea that she really is torn between them. Raoul is just the most logical choice, and even Erik knows it.

Totally agree with you on this. I've seen Christines who wept over leaving him in the past, long long before LND, and I've always loved to see it played that way. That's how it SHOULD be played, IMO. She loves them both.

I'm still soaring, to be honest. I enjoyed the production thoroughly. My only complaint about the digital sets was the hyperpixilation; I really can't see how else they might have done the production at Albert Hall (where the chandelier is hard-wired to the ceiling, BTW).

I also loved seeing my favorite Phantom, Earl Carpenter, as the auctioneer. :-)
