Transformers rocked. Even if the plot was directly lifted from Independance Day.

So was the General Motors product placement in your face or was it subtle?

Totally in your face. But so unabashedly that you can't really be pissed about it. It was like, "HI WE'RE GM AND WE FUNDED THE FOLLOWING CINEMATIC EXPLOSIONS." And the audience is like, "Oh, we like explosions, thanks GM!"

I'm glad I'm not the only one who made the ID connection! American cinema: Celebrating our great nation by pretending to blow up parts of it.

Well, one way to insure that people maintain their national pride is to reinforce their sense of national value by exposing them to images of parts of it being blown up by robots/aliens/generic bad guys.

On the other hand, maybe people just like to see icons of American culture blown to smithereens. (I haven't seen transformers yet, but I'm assuming it's something along those lines)

So, Starscream flew up into the belly of Unicron and saved the world?
