How can rain REMOVE water from a pool?

I got myself one of those "easy-set" pools with the inflatable ring.  Not living up to the name.  I laid it out, and the first several times I tried to fill it the sides bunched and it wouldn't rise.  Once I finally got around that problem, I got it full to a few feet deep and it seemed to be going fine.  But then it rained, and one side overflowed
