-Had to explain to fifth graders who Adolf Hitler was. Seriously, public education?

If it's any consolation, I had to tell a mom and her nine year old daughter what oxygen is.

But seriously, not knowing who Hitler was? Isn't that basic World History you learn before you're ten? You might not know how he got in office, but you know what he did.

OMG, oxygen to a daughter AND her mom? Now that is sad.

Yeah, I couldn't believe they didn't know Hitler. I mean, most kids that age know him at least from seeing him on the TV all the time or parents making references if they don't hear about him in the classroom.

It makes you wonder what they'd say if you told them Germany was once two countries.

Granted, I was ten when the Berlin Wall came down, but still.

But yes... the mom asked me what oxygen was... because she didn't know.

And I failed college chemistry.
