What I learned last week

1. After discovering how much those multi-bladed razor cartridge thingies actually cost, and doing a little research, I learned that old-fashioned double-edged razors like Dad & Grandpa used to use are the Hot New Thing. For maybe 15 bucks you can buy enough razors to last you a year, and the shaves are much much closer and more comfortable than ( Read more... )

If you use a seconhand razor, make sure you sterilise it well. :)

I like a certain kind of see-hrough soap that smells really fresh and sweet. Probably as a soap, it might not rank right up there, but the smell make me happy, so I use it. :)

Just curious -- what's the scent like -- citrus? floral?

Since I've been sniffing every bar of soap I come across these days I've discovered that I pretty much love almost all citrus scents. Florals, I either love (e.g. rose, lavender, things that smell like actual flowers as opposed to organic chem lab experiments) or hate them, depending. Other kinds -- not even sure how to describe them -- sometimes nice, sometimes annoying.

What's the effective way of killing flying insects? Does it work on mosquitoes?

Of course, mosquitoes are flying insects so theoretically it would work, but they're tiny and hard to swat at if they aren't already feasting on your blood. Just to clarify my previous question.

He just kinda swats them in midair, and often it messes them up enough where they fall down for long enough to stomp on them.

I'm sure he's not the first person to do this, but I never thought of it before.

I *love* handmade soaps and if you start cooking up some bars, send me some!!! :D

I still shave with a razor I bought (like my dad's, and the one you described) and have had since the '80s. I love it, and it's a LOT better than those multi-20-layered razors (I've tried some samples and you don't get a good enough shave). Girls use shaving cream too, ya know, only ours smell like apple and vanilla and stuff :)

Gotta love a man who likes to smell good :D

I'll be happy to mail you some, but it's gonna take a while. I've got most of the supplies I need now, except for the big enamel or ss pot (which I refuse to pay full price for when I know I'm going to find one for a buck in someones garage one of these days,) and I still need to buy a few ingredients. And actually make something...

My wife likes lavender, I like citrus scents, I don't think I could mess those up too bad. I like reading what kinds of oils other people are blending, but at this point I really don't know what smells like what, quite yet. I'm going to have to experiment, I think. Hopefully not wasting too much money in the process...
