I really like Amazon, mostly for the ease with which you can find what you're after, and the verity of stuff they have. Yes the low prices are nice too, but that's not my primary motivator for shopping there.

This article in the Boston Review is forcing me to seriously consider if I still want to spend money with a company that does business that ( Read more... )

So, yeah. There used to be (or maybe I just think so) a sense of "we should make money, but try to do some good for the society as a whole." I haven't heard that in a while, it being replaced with "we have a fiduciary responsibility to our shareholders" and other phrases.

Frankly, I think we're so far towards a plutocracy at this point that the only way to change that is to get really fucking wealthy, and do it from the top down.

This should be something that the unions are doing too, but the days of unions being revolutionaries are long past, from sometime in the 1930s.

No offense intended. I am very pro-union. I just have some nostalgia from when unions were radical.

Unions (the big ones) have become part of the machine, just like everything else. I'm pro organized labor, much less so pro "Union".
