"El Baile de la Muerte"
Incredibly disjointed thoughts on the first half of the mammoth Black Lagoon arc (they're all Facebook tapeworms). You know, the one with the ninja maids.
- UM. THE OPENING CHAPTER TO "El Baile de la Muerte" IS KIND OF THE MOST AWESOME THING EVER. I MEAN SERIOUSLY. "THE BLOODHOUND OF FLORENCIA IS BACK", ANYONE?!
- hnnngggg EDA LOOKS SO PRETTY WITH HER HAIR DOWN/SUNNIES OFF. Too bad this manga is monochrome; in colour, her eyes are so blue, they glow. Gorgeous. Eda cleans up SO GOOD. (And her English VA is amazing.)
- My girlcrush on Eda is really quite ridiculous >.O But seriously--active CIA, undercover as a nun in sunglasses, handles a Glock like she was born with it, badass enough for three people, and drop-dead gorgeous to boot. Oh, and her eyes are so blue, they glow. I CAN'T GET OVER HOW PRETTY HER EYES ARE. *meebles*
- I firmly hold that I learned how to draw legs from Rei Hiroe. Mm, seinen. ♥
- So many gratuitous shower scenes this arc. I ARE NOT COMPLAIN. Specially because AWESOME UST AND GUN/BULLET SEXUAL METAPHORS FOLLOW THIS AHAHAHAHA *dies*

Goodness gracious, these two need to explore the deeper meanings of that metaphor RIGHT THE HECK NOW. This level of UST is probably hazardous to one's health.

See, if it was just Shenhua, I'd be upset because of COURSE the Chinese girl is heavily objectified, fights in stilettos, is obsessed with beauty and has a weird accent. But in Black Lagoon, it works. It works because Shenhua is graceful and sexy instead of all-out trashy. And because she applies lipstick during getaways so she can look her best when slicing people into bits (nb: knives instead of generic martial art kung-fu action? A+!). And because her accent is lulzy, and it would be beyond in-character for her to be faking it anyway.
And the ultimate reason...she usually shares screentime with Revy (who talks and acts very aptly for a Chinese girl born and grown in America, also she has guns), and is said to work for Chang Dage (who is kind of undiluted badass and cool as a cucumber even when there are grenades flying in his direction), and also the entire thing is set mostly in Thailand and the main character is Japanese. EAST ASIA REPRESENT. ♥
- Revy: When you say that...I start thinking..."should I shoot? Is this really the best time to shoot?"
WOW. That...is a solid mark of just how much Rock has affected her. Revy NEVER hesitates on the trigger. (Perhaps because in Roanapur, a hesitant gunman is usually a dead gunman.) I mean, she murdered a cabin full of non-combatants in the fourth arc without even blinking (literally. She doesn't actually blink when Whitman Fever takes hold). If Rock can actually make her think about what she's shooting as she pulls the trigger...all I can say is, that's gotta be a hell of a lot of love.

- The shock force of ROCK with a SLASHER SMILE on his face is absolutely horrifying. I mean that's just...not...right. ._.
And then I lost the plot completely and ended up not making any more comments for the rest of the arc, but...GARCIA. T_T
On the other hand, Fabiola is awesomeness incarnate. I think she's my personal Darkhorse for this series.
