News: not much. Gloriana start rehearsing again on Monday, for which I've revivified my critical edition of the Earthquake mass and prepared a performing version. Not enough time and probably the odd mistake, but that's no problem. Also did a tidy-up on Andrew R's version of the piece by Clare Maclean ( Read more... )

Apparently! Although most of last week I felt as though I should have been on Mars, attended as I was by Phobos and Deimos...

Yay for new compositions! I'm looking forward to trying them out.

Me too. One of them is sure to be... if not controversial, at least open to misinterpretation!

Ineligibility of ROCS committee types/conductors notwithstanding, are you going to put in a piece or two for the concert?

I hope to, at least a short piece. But I've not been in a choral writing mood as yet. More of a "finish my electronic/synth pop music" one, when active at all.
But I'm sure it will come.

Do send it in whenever it's ready. I've already got one 15 page score to play with, the more the merrier...

Incidentally, the reason I'm getting people to send in electronic submissions is so that I can import them into Sibelius and apply a uniform "house style", so that they appear more or less anonymous on the page. It was notable back in 2004 that virtually every composer for the YMC concert used a different notation package, so you could tell whose piece was whose simply by examining the typesetting.

Determining the identity of a composer would then be on stylistic grounds - a harder task generally - and obviously I want the competition aspect to be judged as impartially as is possible.

Yummmm...dried chillies!

I'm going to whack in some chilli bushes this year, and dry my own! I've decided that dried chillies are too good to live without, and I fancy giving growing my own a try :-) I'm going to dry them in my solar cooker that I'm putting together.

Mostly better. The tinnitus went pretty quickly.

I thought better of blowing off in livejournal, and actually directed said ranting to Conductor and his brother wot manages the thing. The rehearsal went very well for what was a first read-through for most of the choir - the turnover since Gloriana performed the pieces would be maybe two-thirds of the singers? Anyway I'm on good terms with both of them so I expect I could post a Reader's Digest condensed version here right and now without fear of causing further uproar and oppobrium, but I'm waiting to hear the screams from afar before I do that.

Um, if it's still open for entries...

I have thing, it needs a little more polishing and a lot of.. typesettingy stuff. I don't actually have any real notation software that I can use (eg: noteworthy won't save... stupid shareware edition).

Um... help?

neomorphy at the usual hotmailly thing.
