I thought weekends were supposed to be for relaxing. Since the last journal entry: 9 birthdays including
foxe,
frankymole,
maggishness and
kadooshka. Happy birthday all!
Friday night, concert! I'm so glad it's over. It all went very well, and the choir sang my piece better at the dress rehearsal and in the concert than they had managed hitherto. I had only one brief moment of physically shaking from nervousness beforehand, at about a quarter past five, but fortunately having something to eat quickly put an end to that. Papa Gino's had a spaghetti aglio e olio ready for me in all of ten minutes flat, and after swilling a glass of red, it was off to RMIT.
Kubla Khan: Karl and
lynsis were fantastic on flute,
winikoff at his dependable best on "harp", and I had plenty of eye contact and rapport with the sopranos and altos.
foxe's solo sounded a little bit affected by nerves. I didn't see or hear much of the tenors (quelle surprise) and basses, though to be fair Donald had no voice! I'll have to send off a missive to Sandra Uitdenbogerd to enquire when a recording will be available for auditioning.
I was disappointed that the small-ish audience were too polite and decidedly non-committal about saying anything good or bad about the pieces. It was a program entirely of world premiéres for Deity's sake! Thanks especially to Olly, who had something definite to say! (That my music stood up on it's own, without the poem.) Party afterwards was pretty fun - scarily everyone present had an lj - but I had to leave early. No rest for the wicked.
Saturday morning at 9 am, signed lease for new place and started moving things in! Thanks to the efforts of
daharja and
winikoff, we got a huge amount of stuff moved on Saturday (about 6 car loads). Then had an incredibly cheap dinner at the Indian restaurant at the top of Elizabeth Street.
The address of the new place is 22/411 Lygon Street, and is laid out like a townhouse, with living and dining areas and kitchen downstairs, 2 bedrooms, toilet, bathroom and laundry upstairs. There's a carport beside the unit so only one wall is common; there's a small back garden. It will make a great venue for MUCS coffees, and possibly PCPs...
Sunday, a little more house moving. By now we were so tired, Emma slept for a couple of hours in the afternoon and I slumped for a while beside her. Another run to Carlton. Dinner back at Camberwell, and then we watched A Clockwork Orange on SBS. I did tidying and dishes. Fell into bed. Bad night sleep.
Monday, we drove in on the Eastern Freeway this morning (hurrah for the Transit Lane!) and I dumped a load off at Lygon Street before work. From leaving home it was only seven and a half minutes to the Uni on foot!...
And my package from the Havergal Brian Society has arrived. Postal goodness! A hardback volume of the complete piano music, and a softback containing the two studies of The Gothic.
