So here I am at art school. I am at a point where my enthusiasm is a lot less than it once was. The work I'm doing, the money I'm spending, and the way I'm feeling are not adding up. Yes, I wanted to make cartoons, and I am still interested in making short films, but I'm not feeling successful and motivated to continue. I must continue, and I ( Read more... )

I don't know if this will help or not, but as someone who struggles with motivation the biggest thing that keeps me going is to pre-schedule my time. I can't just sit home and study without going crazy so I make sure to schedule fun activities with friends that I know are coming up and that way I feel more motivated to get my studying done or else I'll feel guilty while I'm playing with friends.

I think school is designed to be hard. While you like what you're doing and where you're going school tries to prepare you to deal with the unpleasantness in any career.

Yeah, you are right. I will try to make and keep a schedule. I have been doing some fun stuff, but feeling guilty too.

I don't mind difficult work, but when it feels like it drains out energy and takes over all my time, I feel emotionally flat. I hope my career, whatever that ends up being, doesn't flatten me too much. If it does, I hope it will reinflate me.

Thanks for caring, even though I've been absent from LJ for a long time and haven't been keeping up with your posts.

That reminds me, I must come up with something amazing for your birthday.

Dude, you are not at all lazy! You and bettina amaze me with how much time you spend on your assignments and everything. And you've come so far with your art. I can totally understand why you're exhausted and feeling unmotivated, and i agree with jess's suggestion of scheduling fun time and such. Bettina and i were talking about riding bikes or something on sunday. I miss hanging out with you! We should do something, even if we are both busy.

Yay! Thanks for the advice. I've been so focused on the art that my logistical, analytical, and time management skills are floundering.

Bike riding sounds great. Also, Super Mario Brothers. or whatever. I know you are very busy, but it would be cool to try and have at least a bi-monthly get together of some sort. I miss hanging out with you as well!

The important thing is that you have the right attitude about it. I hope that it continues to get better.

Oooh, everything you touched on here is exactly how I feel. Except, I'm not in school anymore. But I should still be working on my demo reel and just can't lately.
