Today, depending on how you take it, I saved the company $350,000 + $75,000 in annual support costs.
Or alternatively, we're using a product that we were always licensed for, but now know it for certain rather than having some people say we are and others say we aren't.
I'm going with the first option. It sounds better.

New job!
I can't believe I haven't posted this. I moved in August, from application support to Junior Database Administrator within my current employer. Not sure I'm too happy with the "Junior" bit but I'll cope for now, however the move is amazing for me. I am now (jointly) responsible for the company's MySQL, Oracle and MS SQL instances.

Sat in a hotel bar in London
I'm sat in a hotel restaurant/bar in London, waiting for my Nasi Goreng. I have a pint of lager in front of me, and a relatively comfortable looking bed to head to afterwards.

Reading through memories
Reading through old journal entries is in equal parts fascinating and terrifying. So much crap writing, so many fascinating memories, so many hints at stuff that were never expanded upon.
That's a good alternative to a proper entry, right? -

Work related, new CIO seems like a sensible chap. He has plans. I look forward to seeing them come to fruition. There has already been large scale reorganisation and I'm sure there's more to come.

I'm now officially on-call with the new job. At the moment 1 week in 2 but call-outs should be "relatively" rare. They are actively trying to hire more of us though, so give it 4-5 months or so and I expect it to be 1 in 3, much more palatable. I wrote a fairly lengthy letter to our MP talking about various things I would like to see happen in terms of rental reform. Most of the things I want to see happen are already law in other parts of the UK (e.g. up-front fees to secure a property in Scotland) or Europe so I'm not after anything outlandish.
