Something happened to me that was short, confusing, unexpected, and quite unpleasant.
After having lunch with Michelle at the mall where she works I drove around to a few jewelry and antique shops, looking for a buyer for my ring. The last one was a place called "Antique Pavilion," which consisted of several shops sharing a parking lot and building.
I parked in front of one selling fine art and walked toward the main entrance. When I was almost there I heard someone behind me shout "Hey" or "hey you", something like that. I turned around and saw a guy looking at me. I asked him "Yeah?" and he didn't much respond, just kept looking at me. I pointed to myself and asked several times if he was talking to me, and he finally indicated that he was but he wouldn't tell me what he wanted.
He was apparently the owner or employee of the shop I parked in front of so I walked over to find out what was up. Some shops are really protective of their parking and I didn't want to get towed if that was the case.
When I got to him he smiled oddly and asked if I'd been in his shop. I replied that I hadn't. I was expecting him to say something like "Well parking is for customers only," but instead he said "You should come see it, it's nice." Now, at this point I'm thinking (a) this guy is more than a bit "special," and (b) it couldn't hurt to walk through his store, especially if it turns out that he buys or sells jewelry. So to humor the special man and because I had nothing better to do I said sure and walked through the door that he held open for me.
When I got inside I could see that it was CLEARLY not selling anything I'd want. It was rather small and kind of shabby, although it was selling Romanesque (possibly Byzantine) paintings on wood that were no doubt very expensive if they were genuine. I politely looked around for a few seconds as the weird (but seemingly harmless) guy walked to his desk. Once he got there and sat down I heard him say "I was looking at some of these when I saw you." I was like "What?" and he pointed to his computer screen and said "I was watching these when I saw you walk by."
At this point the whole event had probably taken less than a minute from start to finish and I was still a little confused about what's going on with this guy. He was smiling the whole time and not hostile in any way I could perceive so I didn't think he was mad about the parking spot; but then there's what he said about "seeing me" and about what he was watching on the computer. Plus his whole demeanor and his desire for me to look at his shop and then at his computer made him seem very childlike and odd; odder than your average successful antiques dealer. Confusion and curiosity demanded that I go look at his computer.
When I looked at his screen I expected to see security footage. What I saw instead was a closeup from a porno. It was straight porn by the sound of it, but all I could see were the thighs and asses of two people standing and fucking. I stood there agape for what seemed much longer than the second and a half that it probably was. My brain was racing, looking for an answer or explanation. Where I expected to see a black-and-white view of the parking lot I instead saw someone's cock violating someone else's unspecified orifice. I recalled how he said "I was watching these and saw you" and for one awful minute I thought he meant that he'd been watching porn of me and then recognized me in front of his store. I probably looked completely dumbfounded as I tried to take it in and make sense of it.
Thankfully I recovered my composure in a second. I turned away from his computer, swept his shop with my eyes, said "I don't think any of this art will be right for my apartment" and walked out. Thankfully Mr. Creepy didn't try to follow me out or ask me back or *shudder* give me an explanation.
I'm still confused about what his problem was, but the whole thing made me feel kinda dirty. I dunno if he was trying to hit on me, solicit prostitution, find a jackoff partner, expose himself and/or his dirty secret...I dunno what the fuck. But I was totally shocked, y'all.
Hopefully this experience will always just be filed in my head under "weird," "funny," "awkward," and "pretty deeply unpleasant." If it gets filed under something like "violated" that would be less than ideal. I might end up like Tori Amos, although instead of writing a song about a guy who unbuttoned his pants at me I'd be writing a song about some crazy dude who lured me into his shop to show me his porn.
*shudder*
Why do people have to be so fuckin' weird.
