How do Austrians show their pride for their nation?

could it be that we're just more arrogant?

I'm not sure I would say we're more arrogant about national pride. Sure, some people are, and there are plenty of idiot news pundits and politicians to prove it. But the average American--I'm skeptical. My mom, for example, isn't arrogant about it. She just flies her flag and wonders, somewhat upset, why I don't have more pride for the country.

Hmm, I didn't see very many displays of national pride in Austria. Pride of that kind was mostly regional: people in Graz proud about their being Grazers instead of living in Vienna, or people in one province making fun of folks in another. You would never see regional flags though hanging proudly on a family's balcony though.

As best I can tell, Europeans in general, not just Austrians, show pride for the country through football. It was madness over there during the 2004 European championships. Heh, Greece won, and no one was expecting that!

I think that overt pride in country came to a all-time high in Germany and Austria during the Hitler years. Due to the horrors that resulted from that, it has been toned down greatly because a certain danger is seen in it.
