I didn't realize how fan-fic-ish this new movie was until I just rewatched Wrath of Khan. That said, judging by the audience's vocalizations, the trekkies seemed to enjoy the fan-fic-ness. I feel like because of the whole parallel timeline thing, fan-fic-ishness is kind of unavoidable.
