For a company that makes $430 million PER QUARTER in PROFIT (not revenue, not net dollars, but rich, creamy profit), Apple certainly has some fucking stones to present itself as the equivalent of an indie music label. Hey, Apple makes a good computer, but they're hardline extremists when it comes to digital/knowledge management and exploration.
20 cents a song to an artist is great. for an album, that's 2 bucks. that's more than an artist typically makes per record. it sucks that we pay up to $18 for an album, and the artist only sees about $1.50 (that's AFTER they've recouped money owed to the record label from not only the current album, but any album previously released that hasn't been recouped yet).
i'd be much more willing to purchase albums if i knew the artist was getting more of the money. and less benefits from the labels, you know more on par with "real" people's salaries, especially for top40 crap.
