You write worried parents awfully well, Phillipa!
Kirsten spoke softly to Ryan, trying hard to keep her emotions in check. If Ryan could hear her, she didn’t want him to know how scared she was. She didn’t want him to know how serious his condition was, in case it scared him as much as it was scaring her.
the image of avoiding others so he didn't have to speak was very strong also.

I'm glad you ended with Ryan's pov, that was reassuring - you had me most worried!

Hmm... these doctors are a little too evasive: can't answer questions directly, broadly interpretative answers. What's that remind me of? Oh yes, damn politicians.

X-mas present yay! The tension is very palpable. This is what parents feel like when their kid is hurt. Poor confused Ryan. Good work Philippa. Hugs

I'm really really worried about Ryan.
At least we got a little of his POV at the end, but still...I want more reassurances. And the parental units could use some positive signs as well by now.
