When Melinda Reeves-Eppes entered her home and heard the gentle Jazz music coming from the master bedroom she sighed in annoyance. Normally she won’t care if her men were enjoying some time to themselves, but tonight she just wanted to feed her son and crawl into bed. She was tired and achy and just frustrated after dealing with award season paranoia all day. Dumping her briefcase and high heels by the front door, she stomped up the stairs prepared to kick them out of bed and into the guest room.

Instead, the moment she reached the bedroom door her bad mood dissipated and a warmth spread over her.

Don and Billy were laying in bed shirtless. Don laid on his back with their son, in just his diaper, curled into his chest. Billy was laying on his side propped up on an elbow as he slowly ran a hand over the baby’s backs. Cooper Reeves Eppes, their son, was cooing softly as he looked between the two older men. As she watched, the two men would occasionally trade kisses or drop a gentle kiss on the baby’s head. The soft West Coast jazz flowing from the speakers on the dresser just enhanced the dreamlike quality of the moment. As the song changed Melinda’s smile increased at the appropriateness of the title if not the lyrics and she moved into the room and crawled onto the bed.

Kissing both of her men, Melinda curled into Don’s side and nuzzled the baby’s neck. They didn’t exchange any words just wrapped arms, legs and fingers together as Julie London’s smoky voice filled the bedroom with Bobby Troup’s “Daddy.” They settled deeper into the bed, allowing sleep and peace to claim them.

This was all she needed in her life: her three beautiful boys.
