Calling all electronic geeks!

Jun 05, 2011 12:02

So I'm thinking about buying a new electronic thing. I want to be able to stream Netflix and stuff over my TV. RIght now, I have three choices:

1. Blue Ray Player
2. Apple TV
3. Roku

What do you guys think? Is there anything else I should be looking at?

I vote for the Blu-Ray player unless you already have one. I think streaming Netflix capability is a standard feature these days, but they have different selections of other stuff. Mine has Pandora and YouTube and some other things that I've never used because they cost extra. I don't know anything about Apple TV. Another option you might want to consider is a Playstation 3.

This will probably come as no surprise from an Apple fanboy, but I would saw take a long look at the Apple TV.

For the cost, it offers a lot of features. It is tiny, so it won't take up much space on your entertainment center. It's fast with streaming Netflix and such as well.

The big disadvantage is that it is a bit closed - so you can't use it to stream Hulu and other stuff to your TV.

What about a cheap ($200) computer? That's what I use, although Apple TV wasn't an option at the time.

(the obvious advantage being that you'll never have to pay extra to watch something on TV that would be free on the computer, like Hulu tries to get you to do.)

This is a good point.

I also have a Mac Mini hooked to the TV - with the remote as well as a wireless keyboard and mouse, it's more versatile than anything else.

Get the Blu-Ray player. You can get all kinds of different video feed with just one gewgaw. With Apple TV, that's all you get.
