Self-image on the web is a very peculiar thing. Judging from my experience with the internet over the past ten years or so, it is interesting to look back at the various ways in which I portrayed myself online. The quirkiness in those status updates really matters too, but really they mostly become generated, sometimes seeming like they were chosen from a drop-list. What is best is when a person's "status" is updated so quickly that their explanation of personal status is spelled improperly or is grammatically incorrect ( ... )

I like what you said about how websites like Facebook allow us to express ourselves through such categories such as interests, favorite books, and favorite movies, etc. It's strange how we are thus forced to create identities through the media. It's interesting that when given a blank Facebook that you must fill in, you are given all these categories to work under instead of constructing your own idea of your identity.

And I like what you said about the emoticons. I think it's silly how hard these websites try to have a verrrry long list of emotions to choose from, when we wouldn't use half those emotions in normal conversation (like quixotic), and when we can just write down our own emotions, instead.
