Yes, it is familiar. I liked it very much. I also like the one Toodles!! and Jamie are attending, St. John of the Ladder. They are both lovely in more ways than one. :)
I think you'll be pleased! I saw the pics of Christ the Saviour on the OCA website and it struck me how similar our design is to this one -- a little larger and more Byzantine, less Russian (more rounded edges, less sharp angles). We'll even have an offset bell tower like they have.
Our dome will be quite a bit larger and, of course, will be rounded not onioned. I'm so excited about the dome! It will rise on pendentives from the capitals of four columns. The Pantocrator will go in the dome, flanked by the Old Testament Prophets. The Evangelists will grace the pendentives. Of course, the iconography will come later -- but it gives us a great long-term project.
Pews!? We don' need no stinkin' pews! I think that as long as Fr. N wears the jibbeh in our particular family there will be no danger of pews. And I'm all for him wearing the jibbeh.
At one point, I remember Fr. Nicholas saying that he felt the design was, to him, a gothic cathedral retrofitted with Byzantine elements. Has that been changed at all? I could see what he meant by that based on the images that were displayed on Sunday.
I wonder why the design wasn't essentially done as a rough copy of one of the ancient churches of Constantinople or elsewhere (or perhaps that was taken into account...?).
Anyhow, I suppose this just show my ignorance regarding such things in our parish.

two of the three drawings of the new temple looked very farmhouse-ish to me.
