Are you writing a novel, or a novella?

I happen to think that novellas are better for first-time major experiments in writing, because they are a smooth transition between the short story and novel format, they can be published cheaply and in small numbers from freelance printers and then passed out to classmates and playmates, and are read in no more than a day or two.
