Neo-classicism

From what I've seen in pictures, Washington is one of the great neo-classical cities. While I understand all the Roman Republic, Athenian Democracy and We Are Serious references involved, it strikes me that the lack of Venetian references (as far as I am aware) is a bit odd, since the longevity of the Venetian republic seems to have been on Madison's mind at least as much as the failure of the aforementioned.
