"Type A Positive", for the record...

around eight I was slicing lemons for garnishing the salad. I had just sharpened the butcher's knife, a comfortingly heavy instrument of kitchenware. Taking it to one of the lemons (waxed), the knife failed to gain purchase and instead slid off onto my left index finger. It felt no different from getting one's finger caught in a closing drawer, ( Read more... )

Hey, I guess I can give you blood if you ever need it. I am A+ too - I just found that out this week. But, I would rather not give anyone blood if I don't have too. I am not good at it, as Karen can attest. I have had a lot of blood taken lately, and even just that little bit is tough for me. The whole passing out thing is not fun, is it? I passed out for the first time last fall (while having blood taken), and it felt absolutely horrible.

I'm also A+! Last time I gave blood another friend was in there too and about an hour after (b/c she was feelign icky) she got up to leave. The Tech followed her and was right on when Lauren fainted and was brought back to the bus. Same time,I was in there with a coworker who was waiting for me and as we got up to go, she said she wasn't feeling well and she sat down in my office. A minute later i heard a wierd gurgle noise and she was seizing and green. She was okay, but it was all very weird! I'll still give blood, but not with either of those two friends.

Sorry about your blood shed Philip!

The sight of blood totally freaks me out...especially the blood of others. One more reason to prolong motherhood! I mean, I don't know what I'd do if I had a kid come running with a bloody knee. I might pass out. I get queasy very easily. Just talking about some gross or medical type of thing pushes me to the edge and I get light headed.

Is it strange not to know your blood type? I think I knew it in 7th grade for a Life Science assignment, but I don't know.

But, all that being said, ER is one of my all time favorite shows. I guess I can deal with blood and guts as long as it's on the tele!

PS. This was a great post, by the way.

You wanna see some blood!?!!??!?!?!??!? chrispyboy May 14 2005, 03:42:24 UTC
I know a couple of you have heard this story, but I'm gonna tell it anyway. It makes me feel like a man. (yep, it's on the list) Try cutting yourself right around your eyebrows. I did that once when I was working at a theater. The only thing is, when I did it, I was in a very hot and dark place doing sweaty work, so I just thought I was sweating a whole lot. When I came out into the light, people gasped, I think a woman may have fainted, or I may have just made that part up. But seriously, I was covered in blood and people were freaking out. It was like night of the living dead. My whole face, my arms and hands, and shirt were covered in blood. I had to get stitches. I never came even close to freaking out though. I did enjoy seeing others freak out though. I suppose I could be an ER doc or an EMT. Anywho, the next day I went to Disney World with my dad. True story.

While I can appreciate the greatness of your story, I'm finding some holes. I mean, come on, you really had no idea you were bleeding? Didn't you feel any pain when you cut yourself and didn't you instinctively bring your hand up to touch your head?? Sweat and blood are completely different in consistency. I mean, really.

Ah, a fellow pansy. I was probably your age when I first realized that such things make me sick. I also get sick when I hear other people's stories most of the time. Who knew?
Glad you're ok, brother.
