Granddad died today. I flew hurredly to New Mexico last weekend to see him because we knew it was coming. He had had cancer for over a decade and was supposed to be dead long ago, but he didn't let that slow him down. I especially dreaded the loss of my mother, and couldn't imagine how I would handle it. When it happened it was surreal, and I sometimes still think of her as being here, just a phone call away. I know you're hurting, and I sympathize completely.
It helps me too to think about things my mother told me, stories of when she was young and we children were young. I think it's good to put your family stories down in writing to share with others and eventually with your own children and grandchildren. You and your granddad had a special relationship, and he'll always be a part of who you are.
