im gonna hear it for this, but i don't care

o.a.r was on conan tonight, and i gotta tell you, i was highly unimpressed. seemed generic, boring and unoriginal, which is well, the opposite of everything i've heard from friends about them, and verbatim what i'd read in reviews. just didn't do anything for me, and i was completely open to it, and actually looking forward to it, out of ( Read more... )

amen. there's like, this giant pseudo-jamband-singer-songwriter thing going on right now. Like, after DMB made it uber huge...then guys like John Mayer and now Jason Mzar (?) are all over the place...bah. Pisses me off. The only good thing is that I can now get to see John Popper at Irving Plaza cause the shit has died down and shifted age brackets.

its funny, when i see kids my age at a show, i think "wow, real young crowd tonight". and on phish tour this winter, i actually felt old...but like, old old, like i really WAS older than a lotta the kids there. crazy.

i should be 28 already

heh...before hiatus, I always felt like I was a newbie fan (despite "signing on" in late 1993...then going to my first show at Jones Beach 7-15-94). So like, by 2000, I had like, 40+ shows under my belt, a few hundred hours of tape, etc. Average, considering most of the phans I was surrounded by. Then, after Hiatus, suddenly I became like...a "Real Old School Phan" or something. I mean, I went to a show and would sit next to people who were like...at their first show. On here, half the Phish community was like..."I can't wait to see them finally." Its like...I can't comprehend getting into Phish without having never seen em live before, etc. I can't comprehend suddenly becoming like, well versed and knowledgable, and "hardcore". It blows my mind. Its like...I'm going on 10 years this year. I used to look up to those who had 10 years on me. haha. Now...shiat...Phish spans 20 years this year. Mindblowing. Anyways, I'm gonna stop flapping now.

Side Note: If the Dave Matthews Band had any less balls, they'd have ovaries.

I have an o.a.r. cd and I was really into it... for about a week. I turned on conan tonight, at the end of their song, and I swear I thought the singer/guitar player was henry rollins. I've never seen a picture of this band. I have dispatch's live cd. its fun every once in awhile... they have some cool live sounds which cant be replicated on studio tracks, I guess.

how anyone can call them a "jamband" boggles my mind though.

fuckin' rich preppy ohio state bastids!! seriously though, they looked/sounded like an indie wanna be band, not a jamband. i couldnt' believe it was that terrible.

The only thing I don't like about the new trend is that I've been a fan of O.A.R. and Dispatch before everyone else had even heard of them....now everyone knows who they are, and their music is changing a little as well. I was a fan of Dispatch back when they were called One Fell Swoop (which was a LONG time ago) and it was really cool that nobody knew who they were. I don't think they resemble Dave Matthews at all though...I HATE Dave Matthews.

I hated OAR from the second I heard them. That "crazy game of poker" song makes me want to get violent on someone. It's just highly annoying. I started listening to Dispatch when I was a freshman in high school, and their old stuff is really quality in my opinion, but their newest stuff isn't. Dif'rent strokes... ;)

I have no idea man. I think they just plain old suck, and I've TRIED to like them plenty of times.
I've never heard anyone call JM a jam band type of guy. I think someone said that about Howie Day once though. People are fucking stupid!
