You all know that I don't post very often. I've been reading a lot this week about the direction that our international military and political efforts are taking, and I thought that others might want to be aware of this as well. Personally, this makes me sick. Perhaps I'm not realistic enough, though, and these tactics are necessary in our ( Read more... )

Oh my God, this is long, since I got to thinking and rethinking. I'm trying to get my head around a few generalities I saw in your response ( ... )

What do I know? *shrug* You explained yourself well, but I suppose it comes to a matter of opinion. I don't feel that it's too much to sacrifice while you see it as a tremendous sacrifice. Summing it up like that in one sentence doesn't really do either of us justice, but that's the gist.

I find the dilemma very interesting, and I hope we get a chance to discuss it more in depth some time. James and I had an interesting discussion about it after he read the comments.

Indeed, seeing as this entry recently celebrated its second birthday and is still the latest entry in your journal. (Can you call it a "journal" if you don't update every day? How about if you don't even update every year?)

That being said, it's interesting to look back at this entry now in light of the past two years. The "weapons of mass destruction" thing -- this seems to have been written right around the time that was beginning to be erased from the national memory. Iraq is worse off than ever now, and yet we hear about it and think about it less and less. I shudder to think where they'll be in another two years -- but at least by that time we'll have a different president. Let's hope it's not another Bush (the one in Florida for example would be a really BAD choice for the position).
