I've been thinking about changing my major to Nursing. I have always wanted to work in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), but never thought I would end up there. I was also thinking about child psychology, but there are way less options in a psychology major than in a nursing major and since i get bored so easily, I think it'd be better to ( Read more... )

Lauren, Lauren, Lauren....my mom works 3 12-hour shifts a week. This "I'll have all this time" thought is a lie. You're fighting your natural biorythyms; you're CONSTANTLY exhausted. You never catch up on sleep. Honestly not the best choice. Her contract to her night shifts expires in September--she's counting down the months already.

Word. I think it will be much tougher than you expect. The other four days in the week will be trying to catch up on getting rested, but if you're busy being a mom I think you'd be reeeeeeally tired practically all the time.

But if it's what you really want to do... I'd say go for it and give it a try. I think a cool idea would be if you could sorta "take it for a test drive"... and see how it feels to work a schedule like that. At least... that's what I'd want to do if it were possible.

1. Work isn't easy
2. I have [longer than] 12 hour days anyway
3. Wouldn't be night shift
4. It would still be worth it if it was the night shift
5. Thank you for the "go for it and give it a try."

***what you guys don't realize is that with NURSING I could do a kazillion different things. As an RN you can do anything from hospice to administrative stuff to hospital positions, et cetera. This way I wouldn't be tied down - so that test drive you were talking about, would actually be possible***

well...i think it is very exciting...we were NICU babies! anyways...you keep yourself pretty busy now, so i don't think the 12 hours shifts will kill you...anyways, if you really want to, i say go for it

I did. And I wanted to do a lot of things. I am still rolling these ideas around in my head and praying about them, so who knows where I'll end up.

The person that used to live in our house is a nurse. Most of the people that email my Dad are nurses... I think there is some sort of pattern there.

Lets join the military together. That would be quite interesting.

Most of the people that email my Dad are nurses (who have been married)

Just had to add that last bit. The woman that used to live with us works with a lot of divorced nurses.
