Happiest Time
Lying to children was Wrong, Lisa said. So visiting Santa became Casey’s responsibility. And, for some reason, Dan’s.
“My parents never took me,” he explained.
“Uh-huh,” Casey said.
Which was also all he could manage when Santa took him and Danny for a couple and insisted they both be in the photo: Charlie, beaming, on Santa’s lap, Dad #1 to his left, embarrassed, Dad #2 to the right, laughing.
Lisa wasn’t amused. The photograph vanished mysteriously from Charlie’s room soon after, lost forever.
Dan’s copy, though, had pride of place on his desk and stayed there for years to come.
