Green Knowe, demon tree, evil fingers can't catch me

I have, FL dear, once again been out and had a wonderful time, in spite of all the woes of looming unemployment and residual concussion. Unfortunately, I am now too tired to tell you about it in any detail. Suffice it to say that I have been to visit Green Knowe, which is actually called The Manor at Hemingford Grey, and that it is just as ( Read more... )

i have no tag for this, the kindness of strangers

NO FAIR, I WANNA SEE GREEN KNOWE!!! D:

Even as a little kid, I always wanted a teeny miniature rose bush like they got...my rose fixation started early.

(I'm sorry this is a very late reply.) If it's any consolation, I didn't see any miniature rose bushes, but the roses that are in the garden are mostly old, rare varieties. It's a beautiful place.

I was a little achy from all the walking, but otherwise mostly fine. Of course, so much has happened since then - !

Thank you again for organising this. It's not often that something not only lives up to but exceeds your expectations, but the Manor most certainly did.

It really is absolutely beautiful. If you ever can get there and take the tour, do. The gardens are open to the public most days, I think, though you have to book to see the house.

Count me among the envious - I've admired Lucy Boston as a writer for years, an admiration that grew when I discovered she was also a quilter. There's hope for me yet!

Alhough I don't live anywhere that's even half as magical as the manor ...

I was interrupted in my reply by many things, but what I wanted to say was: I would love to go again, as I didn't get a proper look round the gardens, plus they were rather past their best, and I think both you and Judy would love the place. If I understand the webpage correctly, there's a tour of the house all through May, although you still have to book. If you could manage to be in this part of the world in May, perhaps we could all go and see the Manor one day?

Oh, that looks absolutely lovely. I love that room with the thick old walls and the gramaphone in it. I want to live there myself.

I think Diana Boston would take issue, as it is actually her home. However, unlike Green Knowe, it isn't still occupied by descendants of the original family - Lucy Boston bought it just before the War.

The gramophone actually still works, and the sound reproduction is amazing; Diana Boston demonstrates it during the tour.
