What about the patch? I've never used it, but it might be a good compromise between the pill and the shot. I wouldn't recommend the IUD. I tried it once and didn't stop bleeding when my next period came.
Second, I've tried several forms of birth control. Depo made me freak out! I gained 20 pounds and became a raving lunatic! So no nookie for me. The pill was a pain, I gained weight and had constant yeast infections. I've never tried the patch, though. And IUD is totally out cause I couldn't deal with stuff under my skin.
The thing that my s.o. and I settled on? Condoms. Lots of condoms. I know they are only 97% effective, but after dealing with the weight gain and the mood swings and the yeast infections, we just have to be careful, so it doesn't break and deal with it if it does. But that is just the decision we've come to.
Another option? A vasectomy. Less expensive and less evasive then female sterilization. Once we have enough money we might talk about it for ourselves. He seems to think about it from time to time.
Hope you can find something that works for you. This is a very difficult and often time consuming decision, if you can't find something that works right off the bat.

You're thinking of the implant. The IUD is "the coil".
Phoenix: If you decide to use condoms, be sure to use a spermicide with them. Sharvie makes a point - what about a vasectomy? Hubby says he experienced only minor discomfort with his.

Is the IUD the thing they insert and it bounces around inside? I heard of that, but again, anything that gets stuck somewhere kinda freaks me.
But you mentioned spermicide and that made me remember that I had a bad reaction to nonoxynol-9. So now I only use condoms without spermicide.
And great link, I'll have to check it out later.
