Sugar and Spice is a good Thai restaurant in Porter Square. It's on the red line, and parking is somewhat challenging but feasible. (Spice is another Thai restaurant that may be marginally better, but it's in the middle of Harvard Square, where I believe one should only go by public transit.) My favorite Indian restaurant is Punjab, a few blocks from here in Arlington Center...it's on a bus line from Harvard and there's good parking, but it's not on the subway, which could be a bit of a problem if people are coming without cars from far away.
My favorite Indian restaurant is The Kebab Factory, which is on the Cambridge/Somerville line, across from Dali. Parking in the area is doable, and it's right on a bus line, though it's a fairly hefty walk from a subway stop.
There's a good Thai restaurant called Sweet Chili in Arlington, which is, again, convenient to parking and bus but not to subway.
If anybody has mobility problems, there's a Cheesecake Factory in the Cambridgeside Galleria, which has its own parking garage; I think the Galleria also rents wheelchairs. It's also VERY close to the Lechmere stop on the green line of the subway.
If you let me know where people are coming from, I can probably help some more.
Can you suggest a specific Indian place in Central Square? I would like to stay on the Red Line to accommodate dda, and Indian is my first choice.
If not, I'm thinking Sugar and Spice.
I may be entirely away from email until Sunday evening, so don't be surprised if you don't see anything from me here. I can be reached on my cell, 971-235-0029.
Since I'm coming in from Wellesley Framingham, I'd clearly prefer something in, well, Framingham. :-) There is good Thai on Rte 9 near the Rte 27 and Rte 30 intersections. But I suspect most everyone else won't want to drive out there. I don't know much in Boston/Camberville personally.
I'd definitely prefer something accessible from the Red Line since I'll probably just drive to Alewife and T in.
Desi Dhaba "Gourmet Indian Cuisine & Bar" 617.547.4121 401 Mass Avenue near Central Square, Main St @ Mass Ave, opposite fire station Reservation at 7:15pm
I was going to recommend Shalimar, which has been quite good on several recent occaions, but I was there earlier this week and it fell down badly in several simple things. I've been to this Desi Dhaba once or twice, and it was very good.

I would be happy never again to eat at the Cheesecake factory as long
as I live.
Also, Central Square is, of course, on the red line, and has a few good Indian restaurants and better parking than Harvard Sq.
