It's easy to talk about evil abstractly. It's nearly impossible to make sound judgements when love and loyalty for family and friends conflict with doing the right thing.
Keeping some of the past, so others never forget, is vital. We need people to preserve Klan robes, Nazi flags, burned Klan crosses, ropes used for lynchings -- anything to remind coming generations how bad it was, to give them tangible proof that people have done these awful things and must never do them again.

My fucking mother is racist even though SHE'S a fucking minority (Puerto Rican) and went through a lot of shit for THAT, too.
